Adaptive Climbing

Rock climbing is for everyone!

The Aviary offers an adaptive climbing program to make the gym accessible for people with disabilities. Our goal is to provide every climber an appropriate level of challenge. We have full body harnesses, chest harnesses, counterweight pulley systems, weighted assist systems, padding, and hand hooks. We run adaptive climbing sessions every semester, we make some adaptive systems available during open hours, and we are available for individual sessions. There is no charge for any adaptive climbing.

Accessible Transportation Options

The Aviary is located within the AMS Nest building which has wide doors and two banks of elevators. One is at the main entrance on the south side of the building, the other is at the northeast corner of the building. The Aviary climbing wall is on the second floor of the building and can be reached from either bank of elevators.

There are three accessible parking spaces in the circular driveway in front of the Nest. There are more accessible spaces in the underground parking lot adjoining the building (University Boulevard Lot). These spaces are adjacent to the elevator which goes up to the ground level. All accessible spaces are available to anyone with a SPARC permit. All parking is about $4/hour and requires payment via the Honk Mobile app. The photo below shows the location of the parking spaces. More information about parking is available by calling 604-822-6786 or checking the web site: parking.ubc.ca

UBC runs an Accessibility Shuttle for intracampus transport. Reservations are required. They can be reached at 604-822-9929 or their web site: UBC Accessibility Shuttle

Translink buses 014, 009, and 004 all stop on University Boulevard about 100m from the entrance to the Nest.
